Hakea laurina

A large shrub to small tree, growing up to 5 metres in height. Excellent street or feature tree for suburban gardens. Beautiful bluish foliage, and stunning pin-cushion flower heads in cherry red are much admired in the garden and a sweet smelling winter treat for visiting bees.

Flowering starts towards the end of April and hits its peak in July, finishing just as other spring blooms begin to shine. Hakea laurina are weak rooted so staking is advised, as is protection from strong winds. They are frost tolerant once established and suited to most well drained soils. Plant in a full sun position for best flowering and prune lightly after flowering to shape.
